Canada calling
The first EAA afternoon of 3ew was dedicated to the topic Canada. They drew the Canadian flag, wrote letters to Santa ( and YES, these letters are already on their way across the Atlantic!) and learnt a lot about Canada´s endangered animals while hand-crafting their own polar bears. Moreover, our TA Adam participated as well and provided us with an insight into Thanksgiving festivities. We are already looking forward to the next English afternoon.

Gangsta Granny
3ew started off the school year by reading the book Gangsta Granny my David Walliams. In the course of this reading experience, they designed covers for ballroom dancing magazines, wrote cookbooks with cabbage recipes (I mean, who would not like to start their day with cabbage pancakes?! They are delicious!:) and re-wrote the ending, as they were not satisfied with the original one.
Here you can read the ending Nicholas wrote:
Gangsta Granny – alternative ending
As Ben and Granny were on their way home, the unexpected conversation with the Queen of England herself wouldn’t leave their heads. “Don’t you ever tell anyone about what we just did, my dear! As hard as it may seem, you have to pretend nothing happened at all, always remember I am just your boring Granny and nothing else!”, said Ben’s grandma in a calm and exhausted voice. “But Grann-!” shouted Ben before being interrupted by his grandmother. “I think we’re already running late my-., said Granny as she was slowly raising her arm to check her watch. “Oh my! We’ve only got one hour left until sunrise! Hurry Ben, follow your old grandma!”, yelled his grandma in a surprisingly loud and hasty tone. “But I’m too tired, and my parents won’t even notice me missing.”, complained the now exhausted Ben. “They will, trust me, Benny.”, replied his Grandmother while breathing heavily, not letting Ben finish his usual sentence.
At about 3.5 km/h (the average walking speed) Granny sped her way to the bus stop, proudly telling her grandson that she hadn’t reached such “immense” speed for 20 years. After what seemed like hours (it actually just took 15 minutes), the two finally arrived at the bus stop. The ride would take 46 minutes, while they only had 45. As Ben slowly and unsurely calculated the time it would take him and his way home, Granny also came to the realization that they didn’t have enough time. Trying her best not to upset Ben, she kept it a secret, not knowing that Ben was also aware of their lack of time. 40 minutes in, Ben started getting nervous and fidgeted with his fingers. But knowing that the new ballroom dancing show was aired relieved him. “They won’t notice me. Why am I even worried?”, thought Ben. Two minutes to go. Granny was more nervous than her old body could probably handle, while Ben was calm as ever. The bus arrived.
An awkward silence overtook Ben’s and Granny’s conversation. This was probably the first time in Ben’s life that Granny actually outwalked him. Ben decided to pay a visit to Raj’s shop to grab his weekly plumbing magazine after Granny headed home slower than ever because the “run” to the bus station had exhausted her. Raj noticed that it was Ben’s birthday soon. He offered him a pack of Rollos for free. And surprisingly, it hadn’t outlived the past five generations of the royal family. Ben jumped up and down happily while yelling:
“They aren’t expired. Thank you so much!” Raj was provoked and surprised at Ben’s reaction, telling him that his products are never old and thinking about how Ben found out Raj’s secret. Ben laughed it off for a good ten minutes before leaving the shop. Raj reminded him of the time because Ben was getting late. The new ballroom dancing show was about to end.
Ben sprinted hastily while breathing so heavily he thought the world’s oxygen supply would run out. Ben sweated like a pig after climbing up the pipe to his room. The second he entered the room, his door opened. It was his mom. “Oh gosh, what have you been doing up here for so long, dear?”, she asked. “I-I p- practiced ballroom dancing, mom.” answered Ben. His mother sprinted around the house in joy as Ben watched in horror. He fell to his knees and thought: “Oh no, not agaaaiiiiin!!!”

Impressions from our 2nd EAA afternoon

DIWALI
The first EAA afternoon of class 4gk took place at the end of October. It was about the Indian Diwali festival which is the festival of light. This year it was celebrated on 24th October (main day). You can compare Diwali to Christmas and New Year put together. It is usually celebrated for five days and some of the traditions the pupils tried out are:
RANGOLI – a form of art made with rice or powdered stone
SARI – a traditional Indian dress which has to be wrapped in a specific manner
BINDI – a small gemstone worn on the forehead
BARFI – a dessert made from condensed milk and sugar, flavored with spices
CHAI – spiced Indian tea
The pupils also learned about the legend of Diwali and created their own Happy Diwali cards. Class 4gk had a lot of fun.
